George Milanzi

My name is George Milanzi from Bula Village in the Traditional Authority Likoswe in Chiradzulu District. I was born on 30th March 1980 at Nguludi Mission Hospital in Chiradzulu District. I am the first born in the family of five siblings. Am married with three children and one grandchild. Religiously, I am a Catholic.

I did my primary education at Goleka Primary School in Chiradzulu where in 1998 I was selected to St. Patrick’s Catholic Secondary School. I was there at St Patricks from 1999 -2002 and I obtained my Malawi School Certificate of Education with flying colours but I failed to join University of Malawi because of the competition. In 2003, I joined a teaching service in the private sector. I was teaching at Heidi Private Secondary in Blantyre where I was teaching Mathematics and French [2003-2006].
In 2006, I got a sponsorship to go to TATCOT to study Prosthetic and Orthotic Technology where I obtained a Diploma in Prosthetics and Orthotics in July, 2009. I was sponsored by the International Committee for Red Cross – Special Fund for Disabled [ICRC-SFD].

In September 2009, I was posted to QECH to work as a P&O Technician. In 2009 and 2010, I attended short courses of one month in Addis Ababa in Ethiopia on the basics of Clinical Methods for Lower Limb Orthotics and Upper Limb manufacturing.

In January 2024, I was posted to Lilongwe Institute of Orthopaedics and Neurosurgery [LION] in the Prosthetic and Orthotic Department. LION is a nice place to work and is a conducive environment to me as I am assisting a lot of patients with different deformities and I gained a lot of experience i.e. how to write patient notes using SOAP.
Working in Prosthetics and Orthotics means the provision of medical care through the design and fitting of devices that support and restore movements and function and am trying to play a crucial role in rehabilitation and mobility enhancement ensuring patients receive the right devices to improve quality of life.

During my spare times, I like watching football matches at Entertainment halls and am an Arsenal supporter. In addition, I like teaching Mathematics to my children.
