Lake Windemere Swim

Martin West raised a phenomenal £16,932.82 and inspired other donations by swimming across Lake Windermere. In 2004 Martin was run over by a lorry while cycling to work. Both of his legs were very badly crushed. Although his left leg was saved, the right one had to be amputated below the knee (now revised to above knee).

Prior to his accident Martin did a lot of running and cycling, neither of which he could do any longer so he took up swimming in 2007. Amazingly, Martin then decided to try to swim the 10.5 mile length of Lake Windermere for 500 miles – a 6-7 hour swim!
