The Miles for Smiles Ball will be held on the evening of the 3rd of October 2009 at the EICC in Edinburgh. This unforgettable event is in support of 500 miles.
Our compere will be Fred MacAulay, who will be joined by a host of other celebrities.
The evening kicks off at 7pm with a champagne reception in the Strathblane Hall. This will coincide with the climax of the Miles for Smiles 500 miles Challenge. The 500 miles Challenge will see 500 participants (teams or individuals) complete a one-mile circuit in the most challenging, entertaining and inspiring ways imaginable. Each mile is allocated to a minute from 11.10am with the last 60 miles starting between 6.30pm and 7.30pm.
The one-mile route takes the participants through the Strathblane Hall at the half way stage and at the finish, so you’ll be the audience and support for the last 60 or so one-milers.
A superb three-course meal designed by celebrity chef Nick Nairn and Leith’s at the EICC will be served in the Cromdale Hall. The food will be Scottish with African overtones. Nick will demonstrate the cooking of part of the meal as you dine.
Live musical entertainment will be provided by The Proclaimers whose lyrics “I would walk 500 miles” inspired the name of the charity. There will be additional live music and dancing.
Group bidding will be the name of the game at a different kind of auction for these challenging times. 500 individuals or teams will have completed 500 miles earlier in the day by doing one mile each. What can you do together?
Most of the prizes will be group treats and experiences which money can’t buy and will have a “miles” and “smiles” theme. Ally Logan, a fabulously entertaining livestock auctioneer from Caledonian Marts, will be in charge!
There will be a free raffle in which every table will win a prize, including 10 amazing star prizes – and you’ll go home with a goody bag.
The cost of a table for ten is £1050 - which is £100 and 500 pennies per person. There will be no cash calls on the night but you will have the option to support 500 miles’ One Smile fund.
